Dr. Reeder also serves as Associate Vice President for Brookhaven National Laboratory Affairs, acting as Stony Brook’s liaison to the nearby DOE laboratory co-managed by Stony Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute. Dr. Reeder retains the position of Professor of Geochemistry in the Department of Geosciences, where he served as Chair for 2008-2013. His research interests include X-ray scattering and spectroscopy studies of natural and engineered materials of environmental relevance. His research group has focused on structure-function relationships of disordered and amorphous solids, sorption behavior of heavy metals on minerals, and bioavailability of contaminants in environmental systems. Reeder received a BS degree from University of Illinois and MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California-Berkeley.
