Dr. Richard J. Reeder

VP for Research, Stony Brook University
Dr. Reeder also serves as Associate Vice President for Brookhaven National Laboratory Affairs, acting as Stony Brook’s liaison to the nearby DOE laboratory co-managed by Stony Brook University and Battelle Memorial Institute. Dr. Reeder retains the position of Professor of Geochemistry in the Department of Geosciences, where he served as Chair for 2008-2013. His research interests include X-ray scattering and spectroscopy studies of natural and engineered materials of environmental relevance. His research group has focused on structure-function relationships of disordered and amorphous solids, sorption behavior of heavy metals on minerals, and bioavailability of contaminants in environmental systems. Reeder received a BS degree from University of Illinois and MA and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California-Berkeley.
